Event Spotlight: Kava Lounge Launches A Month Of Herbalism WorkshopsPhoto: Stephen Jackson/Hoodline

Each week, we'll feature an especially interesting event in the neighborhood based on the event submissions we get, and what we hear about while we're out on the beat. If you want to be considered for next week, please submit your event here.

The recently opened Kava Lounge on Divisadero and McAllister is already inviting the community in—and not just for kava. A series of workshops launching this month at the lounge are focused on healing and herbalism. Local herbalists Kouros Alaee and Yvette Mari Robles will be running classes in the space through the end of the month, which are free and open for anyone to join.

This week, they'll host an herb and aromatherapy workshop titled "The Home Herbalist: Making Teas, Tinctures, Infusions, & More!" The event runs from 6-7pm on Thursday.

On Saturday afternoon from 3-4pm, they'll also offer a workshop on holistic beauty called "Farm to Face: Make Beauty Products from Food in your Kitchen."

Here are the other classes to mark on your calendar for May:

  • May 19th, 6-7pm: Plant Party!! Herbal Elixirs & Natural Highs
  • May 21st, 3-4pm: Botanical Perfumes: Essential Oils, Basic Blending, & More!
  • May 23rd, 6:30-7:30pm: Happy Healthy Healing with Yvette

All classes are free to attend, but participants who'd like to take the items they make home with them are asked to donate a small amount towards the cost of materials. More information on the upcoming holistic workshops can be found here:
