Inner Sunset Memorial Day Weekend: String Quartet, GGP Band Concert, MorePhoto: Victor Lee/Flickr

Memorial Day weekend is a relatively quiet holiday in the Inner Sunset; observant residents will notice a surplus of parking spaces, shorter lines for brunch, and the scent of grilled meat wafting from backyard barbecues.

There's nothing like a three-day holiday to slow one's roll. If you're feeling traditional, stop by Progress Hardware (724 Irving) this weekend to pick up a charcoal grill—they're even open on Memorial Day.

Memorial Day is a good excuse for a picnic in Golden Gate Park.

On Sunday afternoon, the Golden Gate Park Band will play a 90-minute selection of patriotic standards, to pay tribute to our nation's fallen soldiers. The concert is at 1pm at the Spreckels Temple of Music, where the band has performed for the last 134 years.

In other weekend activities, the all-female Amaranth String Quartet will perform at Seventh Avenue Presbyterian Church, Blackthorn Tavern is hosting trivia night, and everyone's favorite, the Inner Sunset Farmer's Market, has everything you'll need for a cookout or picnic.
