Block Party At PROXY Kicks Off SF Jazz Festival TomorrowPhoto: envelope A+D/PROXY

Each week, we'll feature an especially interesting event in the neighborhood based on the event submissions we get, and what we hear about while we're out on the beat. If you want to be considered for next week, please submit your event here.

The 34th annual San Francisco Jazz Festival is upon us, and a block party tomorrow evening will bring the whole Hayes Valley neighborhood together to celebrate.

This free community event, which will take place at PROXY (Hayes & Octavia) from 5-10pm, will feature live music from the Mission Brass Band and Beso Negro

Local businesses are also rallying for the event: beer bar Biergarten and wine connoisseurs Fig and Thistle will donate proceeds from the evening to fund future free movie nights at PROXY

Food trucks will also make an appearance to appease those with an appetite; check out Del Popolo Pizza, crêpes from JShack, burgers from Me So Hungry, and empanadas from El Sur.

The Jazz Festival itself will feature a diverse range of performers—many of whom live locally. Oakland-based California Honeydrops take the stage on June 9th and June 10th, and local cello player Zoe Keating will perform on June 15th, as will gypsy jazz sextet GauchoWe'll feature some events on Hoodline in the coming weeks, but you can find the full lineup here

Other events taking place in the neighborhood this week include:
