The biggest news in the northeast neighborhoods this week was yesterday's hours-long standoff between police and an armed suspect who had barricaded himself into an apartment on the 900 block of Pacific Avenue in Chinatown. The suspect was eventually apprehended after jumping through a skylight and battling with police. Read our full story here for all the details.

Panhandling leads to ATM robbery

A 14-year-old girl was walking alone on the 300 block of Powell Street in Union Square at 12:15am May 27th when a man, age 40–50, asked her for money. She gave it to him, but then he demanded she take him to an ATM. He told her he had a knife, so she withdrew money, which he took before fleeing on foot.

Elderly man stabbed in the head

On May 27th at 2:45pm, an 89-year-old man was found on the ground at the corner of Clay and Kearny streets with multiple stab wounds to the head. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. No arrest was made. 

Teens with wheels rob man in North Beach

A robbery occurred in North Beach at the corner of Stockton and Filbert Streets on May 28th at 1:20am. A man, 48, was walking when a dark colored sedan pulled up beside him. Four suspects, two of whom were described as being 14 to 16 years old, exited the vehicle, surrounded the victim and demanded his property. The victim handed over his wallet, containing cards and cash, and the suspects got into their car and fled the scene.

Man slashed with pocket knife, robbed of phone

At 3:30am on the 600 block of Taylor Street in Lower Nob Hill, a 26-year-old man was walking when a male suspect, 20-25, approached him from behind and slashed his elbow with a small pocket knife, causing the victim to drop his phone. The suspect grabbed the phone and fled in an unknown direction. The victim was treated and released at the scene. 

Another pocket knife robbery, averted

In another attempted robbery with a pocket knife, a suspect, 18-25, approached a man, 42, who was standing outside an apartment building on the 600 block of Stockton at 1am on May 29th. The suspect asked the victim if he could use his phone. When the victim said that he didn't have one, the suspect pulled out a small knife and demanded money and property. The victim was able to flee to a nearby hotel, and the suspect fled on foot. 

Roof surfing hot prowl leads to arrest

A 31-year-old suspect was roof surfing (looking to gain access to a building through a skylight) on the 900 block of Post Street on May 29th. He entered a building at around 7:30pm and was in the process of stealing DVD players when a man, 73, confronted the suspect. The property was recovered and the suspect was taken into custody. 

Fight ensues after smart phone snatched

At 12:40pm on June 1st, on the 300 block of Kearny Street, a suspect in his thirties approached a woman, 23, and took her phone from her pocket. The two began to fight and the suspect punched her in the arm. Another suspect, 36, then pulled the victim off of the other suspect and both suspects fled in an unknown direction with the smart phone in hand. The victim suffered a bruise to the arm but refused medical attention.

A short time later, at 1:25pm on June 1st on the 100 block of Post Street, a man aged 20-30 grabbed a 27-year-old woman's cell phone as she was trying to put it in her pocket. The two struggled over the phone before the suspect fled westbound on Post Street. 

Man grabs purse, pulls handgun

An unidentified man approached a woman, 40, on June 2nd at midnight on the corner of Pacific Avenue and Taylor Street in Russian Hill, and ripped the purse of off of her wrist. When the victim attempted to recover her bag, the suspect pointed a handgun in her face, then fled in a white four-door sedan. She lost her purse, which contained a cell phone, driver's license, cash, cards and make-up. 

Two crooks nab purse and camera on crooked street

Two tourists, a man, 52, and a woman, 24 were walking near the crooked street at Lombard and Leavenworth on June 2nd at 8:30pm, when two men, both 18, took the woman's purse and punched her in the face. They then stole the man's camera from around his neck and pushed him to the ground before fleeing on foot. As the Chronicle reports, both victims sustained minor injuries and were taken to a hospital with non-critical injuries.

On June 3rd at 12:45am, a man, 28, was standing outside of his home on the 400 block of Beach Street in Fisherman's Wharf, when a woman, 20-25, walked up to him and struck him in the face with her purse, causing him to fall on the ground. When he was down, the suspect took his wallet from his pocket and fled on foot.
