Folsom Street's El Capitan & Carafe To Shutter Permanently

More lights are going out on Folsom Street between Seventh and Eighth streets. Just a few months after the long-running Triptych abruptly shuttered, Caribbean restaurant El Capitan and its sister wine bar/cafe/beer garden Carafe are going the same direction.

According to signs on both buildings and a posting on El Capitan's Facebook page, the two restaurants are closed for normal service, but will reopen for the NBA and NHL finals games. El Capitan will open at 4:30pm with a limited menu for the games listed below, with Carafe opening at 6pm. Carafe will also host three more trivia nights over the next three Tuesdays, as well as a closing party.

Carafe and El Capitan debuted a year ago, replacing five-year-old Radius. According to Inside Scoop, their owner—Jon Whitehead—was the "last man standing" at Radius, and created the two new concepts to pivot away from fine dining.

Stay tuned for details on what the future holds for both spaces.
