Less Than One Year In, Oro Shuts Its Doors At Mint PlazaPhoto: Oro/Facebook

Nine months after debuting at 8 Mint Plaza, upscale modern-American restaurant Oro has shuttered.

"We thought we had a good restaurant, but these days, things are a little rough," chef-partner Jason Fox told the Chronicle. He said the large restaurant was expensive to operate, and warned that similar closures should be expected over the next six months.

Oro seems to have hit its first rough patch after receiving a mediocre review from Chronicle critic Michael Bauer last November, lamenting the overpriced chicken, inconsistent pricing and service. But with a follow-up review last month praising the revamped menu and lower prices, things appeared to be turning around for the restaurant.

Fox said that all is well at his other restaurant, Commonwealth, in the Mission. However, he did not mention what the Oro team plans to do with the money it crowdfunded earlier this month to expand the restaurant's outdoor patio and wine program.
