The SFPD reports that shortly after 6:30pm yesterday, a 35-year-old man was attacked and stabbed by a group of young men sitting at Hippie Hill in Golden Gate Park.

According to police, the group of four to six men, all in their mid- to late 20s, saw the victim walking past with a beer and chased him, punching and kicking him. One of the men then stabbed the victim repeatedly in the stomach.

The victim was sent to SF General Hospital in critical condition. The suspects fled the scene, and were not apprehended.

There have been several violent incidents in and around Golden Gate Park this year, including last month's torture and killing of 66-year-old Stephen Williams, whose body was found in Alvord Lake.

The SFPD has yet to release further details about the stabbing incident, but we'll keep you posted as we learn more.

Update, 12:30pm: SFPD media Officer Giselle Talkoff said in an email today: "This is still an active investigation. We are not releasing the name of the victim. No arrests have been made at this time. "
