Sababa Hot Pita Bar, the Middle Eastern street food eatery that took the place of Paladar Cafe Cubano at 329 Kearny St., has opened for lunch from 11am–3pm Monday–Friday, serving mostly vegetarian, gluten-free specialties as well as beer and wine.

The menu includes build-your-own hot pita ($10), bowls ($12) or hummus plates ($12) with either falafel, chicken, kofta (ground beef kabab) or sabik (fried eggplant and 300-minute egg), and also features salads like tabouli, Moroccan carrot with sheep's feta and orange, and roasted beets with labane cheese and za'atar spice. The term "sababa" is a slang term in Hebrew and Arabic, synonymous with "cool" or "thumbs up," and owner Guy Eshel brings an impressive culinary background.
