The Chronicle reported this morning that the San Francisco Police Department has arraigned two suspects in connection with the May 24th discovery of the body of 66-year-old Stephen Williams in Alvord Lake.

According to the Chronicle, the suspects are 36-year-old Nikki Lee Williams (who goes by the name "Evil") and 19-year-old Stephen Billingsly (aka "Pizza Steve").

Although details about the incident are still emerging, according to reporting by the Chronicle, Williams's death was the culmination of three days of intermittent abuse, during which time he was kicked, stomped, rendered unconscious, and submerged in Alvord Lake, allegedly by Nikki Lee Williams, Billingsly, and other accomplices.

The suspects in custody are part of a larger group that was allegedly involved in the abuse against Williams; the SFPD is continuing a search for other people involved.

The victim was homeless and had no known prior connection to the suspects, according to SFPD spokesperson Grace Gatpandan.

According to the medical examiner’s office, the victim died from "multiple traumatic injuries."

Spokespeople from the SFPD have yet to comment further on the case or provide further details. We'll keep you posted as the case develops.

Update, 6/7, 4 pm: SFPD Officer Carols Manfredi said in a phone statement that the crime is being treated as a conspiracy. Williams "was found to be the victim of conspiracy by many suspects"; the total number of involved suspects remains unknown. He said the SFPD's homicide detail "received substantial assistance from the community."

The suspects, he said, are "believed to be transients without any substantial connection to the city."
