6 Best Spots to Catch a Sunrise in San Francisco

Unless you’re an overachiever, you probably aren’t up early enough to catch the sunrise. But catching the sunrise is almost always a magical event.

Luckily for San Franciscans, there are plenty of spots to watch it all unfold.

1. Hawk Hill
You’ll be able to catch the morning light coming through the arches of the Golden Gate Bridge. Travel to Hawk Hill and take a quick mile hike up to the top for the best view. Hawk Hill is at 14th Avenue and Rivera Street. 

2.Tank Hill
Tank Hill, located near the intersection of Clayton Street and Twin Peaks Boulevard, is a bit of a hidden gem. Visitors who hike there on an early morning will enjoy some alone time. Tank Hill is at 2 Belgrave Ave.

3. Mt. Davidson
With an elevation of 928 feet, Mt. Davidson holds the highest natural point in San Francisco, guaranteeing you an unbeatable front seat for the sunrise. Mt. Davidson is at Dalewood Way and Myra Way. 

4. Bernal Heights Park
Bernal Heights, located at the southern edge of the Mission, sits atop a hill, providing visitors with a 360 degree view as far north as the Golden Gate Bridge and as far south as San Bruno mountain. The park is at 10 Bernal Heights Blvd.  

5. The Embarcadero
The Embarcadero is not built on top of a hill, but the eastern waterfront along San Francisco Bay is perfect for taking in the East Bay from piers and the Fisherman’s wharf. Start at Pier 7 The Embarcadero.

6. Twin Peaks
The famous Twin Peaks are the second-highest hills in San Francisco with an elevation of 925 feet. A climb to the top will provide you views of the city and the Bay. Twin Peaks is at 501 Twin Peaks Blvd.
