According to a recent Trulia listing, Carl Hotel, a budget inn on the corner of Carl and Stanyan, has just been listed for sale at $5.6 million.

Built in 1896 to be a boardinghouse, the 28-room hotel is popular with foreign travelers and the friends and families of patients at nearby UCSF Parnassus Hospital. When the 3,100-square-foot parcel last changed hands in 1989, the buyer paid $1.15 million.

It's unclear whether the property will remain a hotel or will be renovated and converted into individual apartments or resold as condominiums. Zoned for up to three families, the property lacks parking, and its only outdoor space is a fenced-in courtyard. Future residents will have to grow used to the dulcet sounds of the N-Judah, which stops directly in front of the building.
