Inner Sunset Week: Brew With Native Plants, Flower Piano Concert, Free Advice And MoreA Yerba buena plant. (Photo: Aaron Tait/Flickr)

In days past, Inner Sunset residents had plenty of exciting leisure-time options: in the 1930s, thrill-seekers might have been found at an auto or motorcycle race at Kezar Stadium. In 1896, a trip to The Chutes amusement park might have fit the bill.

Area diversions are more sedate in 2016, but there's still plenty of variety. This week, head to the SF Botanical Garden for a "Flower Piano" concert, learn how to use native plants to brew beer, or get coached on how to become a better human being after attending a Green Apple Books on the Park author event.

Awesöme Orchestra will perform a classical program that includes a Beethoven concerto at SF Botanical Garden on Saturday as part of its Flower Piano program. A flamenco concerto will complete the performance; admission is free for SF residents and $8 for non-residents.

Join a native plant hike on Mt. Sutro next Tuesday to learn about the "edible, medicinal and historic uses" for area flora. In partnership with several local brewers, attendees will take a 1.2-mile guided hike through Sutro's "cloud forest." RSVP required.

At Green Apple Books on the Park, author/advice columnist Heather Havrilesky will discuss her latest effort, "How To Be A Person In The World." Havrilesky, who pens New York Magazine's Ask Polly column, will "guide you through the what if's and I don't knows of modern life with the signature wisdom and tough love her readers have come to expect."
