Inner Sunset Week: Tree Planting Day, Fix-It Meeting, Literary Events, More

Inner Sunset residents generally enjoy a high quality of life, but that doesn't mean things can't be improved. Despite the neighborhood's suburban vibe, it's still very much part of a city. As a result, issues like homeless encampments, auto thefts and break-ins, tree maintenance and other problems sometimes feels like the weather: everyone complains, but no one does anything about it.

Fix-It Team Meeting: Tonight, 6:30pm

Tonight, Fix-It SF, an initiative sponsored by the Mayor's office, will have its first Inner Sunset meeting at the County Fair Building. Residents are invited to bring their most stubborn complaints to this session, which is co-sponsored by Inner Sunset Park Neighbors and the Inner Sunset Merchants Association.

On August 10th at 6pm, residents can join Fix-It Team Director Sandra Zuniga as she leads a neighborhood walk to personally inspect some of the trouble spots identified in tonight's meeting.

Friends of the Urban Forest Tree Planting Day: Saturday, 8am

With a 20 percent canopy coverage, the Inner Sunset is one of San Francisco's greenest neighborhoods, but Friends of the Urban Forest is kicking that up a notch with an all-volunteer tree planting day, followed by a potluck meal.

Homeowners who applied to join FUF's urban forestry program earlier this summer will be visited by teams of workers who'll transform several sidewalk craters into homes for new, leafy neighbors. No experience is required to lend a hand; to find out where and when trees will be installed, contact Planting Manager Mike Yarrak (415-268-0784) at mike [AT] fuf [DOT] net.

Here's a look at what else is going on in the Inner Sunset over the next week. For more goings-on around town, visit hoodline.com/events.
