Nearly three months after its opening, Playland at 43rd Avenue is drawing mixed reviews from the neighbors, as the Examiner reports

The temporary park, which includes a community space, garden, and skate area, has both supporters and detractors. Noise—especially from the controversial skate park—has been the primary concern.

Supporters like John Funke, who has been actively involved in the creation of Playland, say that while the noise from the park is that of a "thriving community," they are also hoping to get more funding for noise-reducing buffers.

Other neighbors say that the noise from the park is a quality-of-life issue. For the family of resident Delia Zhao, the noise is especially troublesome because it keeps her terminally ill father from being able to take afternoon naps.

Park officials acknowledged the differences in opinion. “There are some growing pains about how we manage a space like this … but we’ve also heard an overwhelming response about the beautiful transformation of it,” Sue Exline of Planning told the Examiner.

Pavement to Parks, the coalition behind Playland, is asking for residents' opinions in a survey that closes tomorrow, July 22nd. To access the survey in English, Chinese, and Spanish, visit their website here
