SoMa Week: Up Your Alley, Mac and Cheese Melt-Off, Summer Art Block Party & MorePhoto: Courtesy of Folsom Street Events

With the summer more than halfway through, the neighborhood is offering a slew of opportunities to spend the weekend out of doors and in the streets.

First, if you haven't yet checked out the new SPARK Social food truck park in Mission Bay, the smell of gooey cheese wafting through the neighborhood just may drive you there this Saturday afternoon. From 11am-9pm, a host of vendors will serving up creative varieties of mac and cheese at The Great Mac and Cheese Melt-Off, competing for your vote for the "chancellor of cheese, the monarch of mac, the king of queso."

After indulging in cheesy goodness, consider burning off all those calories by heading down to Heron Alley for an art and music-filled block party hosted by Inner State Gallery. From 4pm-12am, the block party will transport visitors to Detroit with visual art paying homage to the Motor City, as well as live music, food trucks and drinks. Plane tickets and TSA checks not necessary.

Finally, another good reason to linger in one of SoMa's many alleys: This Sunday marks the return of Up Your Alley, Folsom Street Fair's "dirty little brother." Leather daddies and fetish enthusiasts will be taking over Dore Alley between Folsom and Howard, Ninth and Juniper and the adjoining block of 10th, for a hardcore festival full of BDSM play.

And of course, there will be countless after-parties to choose from—including Hard French at Oasis and a sneaker and sports fetish party at Club Six.
