Upper Haighter Strikes Back With Anti-KKK FlyerPhoto: Allison W./Hoodline

A day after flyers promoting the Ku Klux Klan were found on front stoops and gates in the Upper Haight, a member of the community has fought back with an anti-KKK flyer. According to tipsters Allison W. and M.C., the flyers are all around the Haight; the one pictured was taken at Haight and Shrader.

Written by someone dubbing herself "The Loyal White Lady Ally of the Haight," the flyers excoriate the KKK for "com[ing] to the Haight and attempt[ing] to recruit our residents. We stand for peace and justice, and have since the '60s, while you were lynching people of color. We love our black citizens and will protect them at all costs."

"Get the entire fuck out of our neighborhood ... Nobody wants to join your pathetic hate group so you can keep your bedsheets and racism to yourself," the flyer concludes, adding a fake website and phone number echoing those sentiments. It also encourages readers to donate to the homeless.

At Tuesday's Park Station community meeting, Capt. John Sanford said he hadn't received any complaints about flyers in the neighborhood, but that their distribution was protected under the First Amendment. "If someone decides that they want to recruit for the KKK, they have the right to do that ... [but] if this group is coming together and talking about commuting a crime or doing something illegal, then that is something we wold be concerned about," he said.

If you're the creator of the flyer (or know its creator) and want credit, or if you see any other interesting flyers around the Haight, feel free to send us a tip
