A 29-year-old man died on Sunday evening while surfing at Ocean Beach. According to the Examiner, a Fire Department surf rescue team was dispatched to the beach around 6:30pm, and though they tried to revive the man, they were unable to do so. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The medical examiner's office has identified the man as Jason Zumbo. It's unclear whether he was affected by surfing conditions, or experienced a medical event while in the water.

Ocean Beach has been in the spotlight this year for its dangerous riptides, which killed two teenage boys who were wading in the water in April, sweeping them out to sea. If you're looking to educate yourself on the dangers, here's our guide to staying safe at Ocean Beach.
