80-Year-Old Man Severely Injured In Random North Beach BeatingPhoto: Geri Koeppel/Hoodline

On the morning of August 8th, a man randomly punched an 80-year-old man who was walking on Powell Street in North Beach, just a few blocks away from SFPD's Central Station.

Captain David Lazar told us that while the victim was on the ground, the suspect repeatedly kicked the man until a neighbor called for help. Following the call, the suspect ran westbound up Vallejo Street.

Capt. Lazar said that the neighbor who called for help found an SFPD officer walking near Central Station, who then pursued the suspect up Vallejo Street and through a nearby alley adjacent to Mason Street.

According to Hoodline tipster Gina, "he then busted through a few doors and gates, ultimately ending up in the yard behind our building. He then realized he was trapped, jumped our fence and ran up our stairwell. The police caught up to him there and were able to arrest him."

Capt. Lazar says that the suspect was arrested for attempted murder, because of the severity of the assault and the victim's injuries. He also added that the victim is currently recovering from his injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Central Station Investigation Team at (415) 315-2400, the SFPD Anonymous Tip line at (415) 575-4444, or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the text with "SFPD."
