Cosmetics chain Ulta Beauty is planning a second San Francisco location, bringing its selection of makeup, skin care and salon services to SoMa.

The company, billed as the largest beauty retailer in the U.S., has secured conditional use authorization to operate as a formula retailer in the former Pier 1 Imports space inside the 555 Ninth Street shopping center. Bounded by Bryant and Brannan streets, the shopping center also contains a Trader Joe's, Nordstrom Rack and Bed Bath & Beyond.

Ulta already has a location in the City Center shopping plaza at Geary & Masonic, which is also home to Target and Best Buy. That location opened last July.

"The [new] store is scheduled to open late fall 2016," said Ulta representative Casey Foxen, who noted that like other Ulta locations, there'll be "expert salon services in hair, skin and brow" on offer, in addition to beauty products.

Ulta's been around for 25 years, but has made a big expansion push of late, opening 77 stores (and topping $3.9 billion in sales) in 2015, and debuting 100 new locations this year. It's currently approaching 1,000 locations nationwide, according to Forbes.
