Now Open In Hayes Valley: Nightbird, A Tasting-Menu Restaurant & BarThe Linden Room. (Photos: Hoodline)

Hayes Valley's former Stelline and Las Estrellas storefronts have completed their transformation into Nightbird, an upscale new eatery from chef Kim Alter, formerly of the Daniel Patterson Group's Haven and Plum in Oakland.

The new project at 330 Gough St., which debuted late last week, consists of a 38-seat restaurant and six-seat bar, called the "Linden Room." The bar adjoins the restaurant, but has a separate side entrance on Linden Street.

While the intimate Linden Room has a 1930s Art Deco theme, the 1,400-square-foot Nightbird aims for more of a minimalist vibe to accompany Alter's $125 per person tasting menu, which will evolve every week or so. The menu (which can be viewed here) consists of five courses, with small bites in between.

“The restaurant strives to create an experience for diners that is innovative and exceptional," said Alter in a press release. "The Linden Room was built with the simple intention of providing a beautiful space for people to enjoy a good drink and linger as they please." For a sneak peek at those good drinks, here's the cocktail menu, which was developed by Alter, Ron Boyd, and Aaron Paul.

Alter named Nightbird for her childhood love of owls; if you're walking by, be sure to check out the carved owl on the front door, by Tyler Bradford.

Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 5:30pm to 10pm.
