SFPD Seeks Suspect Who Bit Off Bartender’s Finger In The MarinaImage: via SFPD

Police are asking for the public's assistance in locating a man suspected of biting off the finger of a bartender in the Marina.

According to SFPD, the incident occurred on the 1900 block of Lombard Street (between Webster and Buchanan) at 2:15am on Sunday, July 17th. The suspect, described as a 6-foot, 180-pound Hispanic male with black hair, brown eyes, and wearing a pink button-down shirt, blue jeans and brown shoes, had been drinking inside the bar with friends.

When the bartender began closing down the bar and told the suspect he could not reenter, the suspect tried to get back in through a small window, but was stopped by the bartender. "The suspect became irate and began kicking and pulling the door of the front entrance," according to an SFPD press release, and that's when things got ugly:

The victim went outside to confront the suspect and again advise him that the bar was now closed. The suspect then attacked the bartender, climbing on top of the victim and striking him in the face multiple times. The victim was able to get on top of the suspect in an attempt to stop him, but the suspect then bit and severed one of the victim’s fingers. The suspect then left the scene with friends who were still inside the bar. The victim was transported to the hospital, where he suffered swollen eyes, contusions to his head, scrapes on his hand and an amputated finger.

Police have sent out two segments of security video showing the suspect wrestling with a friend while shirtless shortly after midnight, then later eating a slice of pizza.

Police ask that anyone with knowledge about the suspect or incident contact SFPD using the anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or text-a-tip to TIP411, beginning the text with "SFPD."
