Smash-And-Grab Burglary Hits Glass Key Photo [Updated]Photo: Glass Key Photo/Facebook

Glass Key Photo will be closed today following a burglary that hit the camera shop, presumably overnight.

"One of the best independent camera stores (Glass Key in the LH) was robbed last night," writes tipster Scot H. "So sad."

We don't know yet how much of the store's cameras, film and equipment may have been stolen, but we've reached out to Glass Key owner Matt Osborne to learn more about what happened, and will update accordingly.

Update, 8/17: Osborne says that while they're still trying to figure out exactly what happened, losses may be in the range of $20K. As he told SFist yesterday, whoever did this "is not the brightest," as the inventory includes only film cameras, and not digital cameras that might have a far higher resale value.

"We don't know if it was random or if they'd been casing us for a while," Osborne told us, but the suspects emptied out boxes and a trash can to carry out cameras. "It didn't appear to be people that were camera people," said Osborne. "A lot of what they stole was literally clearance table stuff.

Police gathered fingerprint and DNA evidence, and Glass Key's owners have contacted other film shops to put them on the lookout for the stolen goods. In the meantime, Osborne says that while there's not much neighbors can do to help, "people have been really nice about offering up help, and I appreciate it more than I can put into words."
