New rainbow crosswalks are being installed today after the regrading work was completed last week. If you recall, the colorful crosswalks were damaged during the filming of ABC's When We Rise earlier this year. Look for the work to be completed later this week.

Castro resident and activist Cleve Jones, on whose book the television series is partially based, shared the news on Facebook, saying:

The rainbow crosswalks at Castro and 18th are being replaced today! They were damaged by the production crew of the ABC mini series "When We Rise" (partially inspired by my book of the same title). As it turns out, the intersection also needed to be re-graded to avoid flooding. (The grading was screwed up when the city widened the sidewalks of Castro Street.) ABC covered the cost of replacing the crosswalks but it took the city months to schedule the work. At least it's ready in time for the Castro Street Fair!
