Just in time for pre-holiday calorie counting, national salad bar chain Sweetgreen is launching its first San Francisco location on Oct. 11th.

Since its launch in Washington, D.C. in 2007, Sweetgreen has expanded to 55 locations, including one in Berkeley, which opened in April

The company is currently putting the finishing touches on its 56th outpost, at 171 2nd St. (at Natoma). The space will feature an open kitchen, communal bleachers for dining in, and a mural by local artist Jenny Sharaf—who's well known in the Lower Haight and Mid-Market

At launch, the menu will offer fan favorites like the Guacamole Greens salad, with chicken, avocado, tortilla chips and lime-cilantro-jalapeño vinaigrette, as well as warm bowls, cold salads and sides utilizing seasonal, local produce. Diners can also devise their own recipes, mixing and matching a wide range of fruits, veggies, meats and grains.

Sweetgreen has also announced that all proceeds on its opening day will be directed to the Center for Urban Education About Sustainable Agriculture (CUESA), the nonprofit that runs the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market. CUESA hopes to use the money raised to launch a rotating pop-up for beginning farmers at the farmers market, and offer participating producers other tools and resources to support their businesses.

Operating hours for the new location are still TBD. will be 10:30am-9pm Mondays through Saturdays.
