More bad news for diners South of Market: Neighborhood favorites Citizen's Band and Pinkie's Bakery have called it quits.

The Chronicle reports that yesterday was the last day for the funky diner and attached bakery, which have graced the corner of Eighth and Folsom since 2010.

As we reported last year, Chris Beerman and Cheryl Storms opened Citizen's Band and Pinkie's Bakery at the height of the tech boom. But with the diner, they had hoped to attract "a little bit of everything—crack whores and homeless people and tech giants,” Beerman told us.

During their first year in business, Beerman said that Citizen's Band felt very much like a hangout for locals, but the clientele soon changed as the neighborhood changed around them.

While the influx of tech offices in the neighborhood initially provided more foot traffic, Storms told the Chronicle that tech companies' corporate dining rooms were ultimately the root of the businesses' demise—poaching not just customers, but staff as well. The rising minimum wage and the cost of the city's mandated healthcare program were also contributing factors.

But all is not lost for these local entrepreneurs. Pinkie's Bakery will continue producing its sweet treats in Bernal Heights, and Beerman is working to launch a barbecue and beer garden in Petaluma.

No word yet on what's next for their former space.
