The Taraval Streetscape Improvement Project has won the Community Improvement Award from the San Francisco branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Located between 46th and 48th Avenues on Taraval, the project has added curbside parklets with succulent gardens, pedestrian bulbouts to improve visibility, and new sidewalks. It also re-engineered a parking lot to direct water into an aquifer, instead of the sewer.

The biggest change, of course, was the mosaic art traffic circle featuring three surfboards—which locals have dubbed "Surfhenge."
