3 Firefighters Injured, 7 Residents Displaced In 4-Alarm Castro Blaze [Video]Photo: Will Hayworth/Twitter

A four-alarm fire took place last night at 35 Hattie St. in the Castro, causing injuries to three firefighters and displacing seven people.

The fire began around 12:17am last night, moving to four alarms by 1am. The three firefighters sustained non-life-threatening injuries; two were treated at the scene, while the third was admitted to the hospital for a possible wrist fracture. The blaze was under control by 2am.

The fire caused a shutdown of several blocks of Market Street, which was lifted around 4am. However, the 100 block of Hattie Street will remain closed through the morning.

No residents were injured in the fire, but a female tabby cat, who ran out the door during the commotion, remains missing, according to the Examiner. The home destroyed by the fire was built in 1887.

We were first alerted to the fire by tipster Chris Z., who captured this video from the scene:

The fire could be seen from Twin Peaks, where many locals captured huge plumes of smoke rising from the Castro.

The cause of the fire remains unclear. We've reached out to the SFFD, and will update with any additional information.

Thanks to tipsters David R., Randall D., Stephen S., and Chris Z.

Update, 12:28pm: An SFFD representative told us that of the seven people displaced in the fire, two were elderly, and one was a child. All were safely outside just after the fire broke out. Unfortunately, the missing cat remains unaccounted for.

In total, 121 firefighters responded to the scene, and one of the three firefighters injured in the blaze remains in treatment for a possible wrist injury.

The 100 block of Hattie remains closed off; given the block's petite size, traffic is unlikely to be impacted. It should reopen by mid-afternoon.
