Animal Rights Activists Crash The Yard's BBQ CompetitionPhotos: Jes W./Hoodline

From 11am on today, The Yard's second annual San Francisco BBQ Festival had it all: 40 teams grilling for the chance to be crowned "Best BBQ of the Bay" and take home a $10,000 cash prize, 15 Bay Area breweries pouring, two rock bands playing—and vocal opposition to the consumption of animals.

Hoodline tipster Jes W. attended the event this afternoon and says animal rights activists, reportedly lacking tickets, crashed the festival at 2:30pm. Protestors paraded for about 15 minutes, chanting: "It's not food, it's violence."

"Never a dull moment in SF. Now to get some ribs..." said our tipster.
