Hoodline aims to keep neighbors informed of crime and quality-of-life issues in the neighborhoods we cover. In this Bayview crime recap and others, we won't be covering every on-the-street incident, but we'll do our best to give readers a snapshot of what's been going on.

It's been well over a month since our last Bayview crime roundup, and since then, the neighborhood has seen a homicide: on September 23rd, a 19-year-old was shot to death at Oakdale and Newhall.

Here's a selection of crimes that took place recently in the Bayview police district, which includes Bayview, Hunters Point, Potrero Hill and the Dogpatch. All details are pulled from the SFPD's daily crime recaps, unless otherwise noted.

Hot Prowl Burglaries

On September 2nd, officers responded to a call on the 800 block of Wolseley Street, from a 46-year-old man who heard noises inside his home while in the bathroom. Upon investigating the noise, he noticed a male suspect, wearing a mask and hooded sweatshirt, with the victim's safe in hand, containing passports and miscellaneous jewelry. The suspect fled, and drove off in an older-model four-door gold Acura.

On September 22nd, a 67-year-old woman heard noise from the back of her home on the 1400 block of 18th Street. Upon investigating, she noticed a woman (age unknown) standing at her front door. The suspect fled when she was discovered. The victim noticed the next day that her house and car key were missing.

Stabbings

On September 11th, on the 2500 block of Griffith Street, a 50-year-old male was found strangled and unconscious with stab wounds to the torso and arm after refusing to give a suspect (age not disclosed) a requested cigarette. When the victim declined to share the cigarette, the suspect then grabbed a wooden chair, broke it over the victim’s back, and grabbed the man from behind. He started strangling him and then stabbed him as the victim was losing consciousness. The victim was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and the suspect was arrested.

On September 24th, a 20-year-old man was standing on the corner of Third and Quesada streets when he heard gunfire and started running.
