Crime reports have been relatively quiet over the past couple of weeks, following our last roundup. However, the neighborhood still had a mix of incidents, including two fires, one of which displaced residents and injured firefighters.

Read on for the latest; all reports are in chronological order and come via the SFPD, unless otherwise noted.

One-Alarm Fire At Castro & Market

On October 12th, we covered a one-alarm fire that started around 12:13pm between an apartment building and the RC gas station at Market and Castro. The fire, burning underneath a porch, was under control by 1pm, and didn't displace any residents. The witness who sent in the initial tip believed that the fire was caused by people living in a homeless encampment. As of this roundup, the incident is still under investigation.

Four-Alarm Fire Displaces Residents, Injures Firefighters

A second, larger fire took place a week later around 12:17am October 20th at 27 Hattie St. The four-alarm fire caused a shutdown of several blocks of Market Street, injured three SFFD firefighters and displaced seven, including two elderly people and one child. A cat also went missing during the incident.

A total of 121 firefighters responded to the scene. The cause is still under investigation.

18th Street Tip On Police Activity

Later on the 20th, we received a tip from reader Alan about an incident with the SFPD around 2pm:

"I was walking down 18th Street in the Castro and there were cops cars pulling up and a cadre of seven officers were going up the stairs of 4222 18th St (same building where the Eureka Barber Shop is located). One cop asked another if there were weapons involved. And then I heard one officer banging on the door and ordered the man to open the door or they'll break it down. After a couple minute stand-off, I left, so don't know what happened."

We have yet to hear anything from the SFPD, but will update if and when we learn more.
