This Wednesday, October 19th from 6-8pm at SFPD Park Station, Rec & Park is hosting a community forum to help decide the future of the "Stanyan edge," the Haight-adjacent eastern end of Golden Gate Park.

The meeting will discuss the fate of the park bounded by Stanyan, Waller, and Oak streets, and the possibility for capital improvements.

"This is a very rare chance for neighbors to give their input," said Susan Strolis of the Friends of Alvord Lake. "This is one of the only chances."

Strolis said that improvements for the area, which her organization has been seeking for a decade, could potentially include improved erosion control, new handrails and stairs, an opening of the footpath that leads to the park from Page Street, and improved lines of sight into the park for police, since the area has become notorious for crime.

She said there was also potential to improve and highlight the oak grove, which is part of the old-growth oak forest recently recognized as part of the city's Oak Woodlands.
