Mission Police Station Gets City's 3rd Bomb Scare Of The DayPhoto by Jason H./Hoodline

A bomb threat at the Mission police station at 17th and Valencia is the third such scare to strike the city today. Nearby residents were being warned to shelter in place shortly before 10pm, according to tipster Chikai O., with the bomb squad sighted in action at the intersection.

As of 10:30pm or so, the shelter warning has ended and officers are reportedly coming and going from the side of the building.

A police spokesperson told Mission Local that the package was called to by the Police Department and noticed by an officer as well.

The squad has had a busy day.

Just down the street hours ago, a suspicious package was spotted on the 100 block of Duboce shortly before 6:30pm. Mission Local reported that at 8:23pm "the bomb squad defused the package with a loud bang, setting off car alarms and giving off a strong odor, but not causing any visible damage."

Earlier in the afternoon, the Hall of Justice at 7th and Bryant was evacuated after a car with a threatening note was left at the nearby AutoReturn.

The scene was "rendered safe" by mid-afternoon, although the temporary closure of the nearby 101 caused traffic snarls. Here's our report from the episode

No word on whether the three incidents are related, but the nearby times and locations are certainly unusual.

We'll be covering any further updates on the situation.

Thanks to Chikai O., Jason H. and Rachel H. for the tips.
