After a tightly contested race for the District 11 State Senate seat, it looks as though victory will fall on the side of District 8 Supervisor Scott Wiener.
"We're cautiously optimistic, with a 14,000 vote margin, but we're waiting for the additional votes to be counted,” Wiener said via email. The supervisor says that he is “deeply grateful to the voters for their support, and to all of the volunteers who put in so much time and effort to the campaign.”
Wiener and his team are not celebrating the District 11 State Senate seat just yet. However, he did say that he was “thrilled” that the BART bond and the street tree measure that he authored both passed. “Both are positive steps forward.”
“I'm disappointed that the sales tax failed,” wrote Wiener, “as it would have moved the dial on housing the homeless and modernizing our transportation system."
Wiener also expressed his disappointment in who our country elected its 45th president in an Instagram post earlier this morning:
We also learned this morning that 53 percent of San Franciscans voted “no” on Prop D, meaning that Mayor Ed Lee will get to appoint District 8’s next supervisor. The appointee will serve out Wiener’s term until the next citywide general election in 2018. At that time, said individual will be eligible to run for the District 8 supervisor seat. She or he could potentially retain the seat from now until 2026.
