While all eyes are on the Russian Consulate in Pacific Heights today following President Obama's new sanctions against the country—which include giving Russian diplomats and their families 72 hours to leave the country—the Chronicle took a trip out to the Richmond to explore the district's Russian heritage through family lore and traditional cuisine.

Chronicle writer Anna Roth met up with a few Richmond District natives—including Fiorella co-owner Boris Nemchenok—to discuss the community's evolution since the Gold Rush and beloved eateries that continue to offer authentic Russian dishes—like Cinderella Bakery & Cafe, Katia's Russian Tea Room and more.

Head on over to the Chronicle to salivate over the full story.
