The victims of the double homicide Sunday night have been identified as residents of a homeless encampment at 16th and Shotwell.

According to the Examiner, the Medical Examiner's Office has identified the male victim as 51-year-old Eddy Tate. The identity of the female victim has not yet been released.

The Examiner and Mission Local both report that Tate, who went by “Tennessee Eddy” on the streets, was shot and killed while inside his wooden shelter. The female victim ran from the scene and bled out on the sidewalk, before her homeless neighbors could react.

Mission Local  adds that Tate had been living on the city's streets for decades. His peers at the encampment told the site that he was a "fast talker with a southern drawl," and typically busy repairing things or helping neighbors build wooden shelters of their own.

The SFPD has not issued any additional details on the investigation. However, SFPD spokesperson Officer Giselle Talkoff did tell the Examiner that the shooting "does not appear to be random.”

Update, 9:38am 12/21:  The Medical Examiner's Office has identified the female victim as 27-year-old Lindsay McCollum, Mission Local reports.
