A small memorial has popped up at the corner of 18th and Castro to honor the lives of movie star Carrie Fisher and pop music icon George Michael.

Fisher, best known for her role as Princess Leia Organa in the Star Wars series, died yesterday morning after suffering a massive heart attack while on board a plane Friday.

According to Variety, Fisher, 60, had recently wrapped her involvement in the upcoming film "Stars Wars: Episode VIII." It's still unclear how her passing will effect future Star Wars films.

Another memorial, also at 18th & Castro, pays tribute to pop superstar George Michael, who died of heart failure on Christmas Day at his home in Goring, Oxfordshire.

Michael's publicist confirmed the passing, stating, "It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period."

Michael was 53 at the time of his death.

CBS 5 was in the Castro on Christmas Day and spoke with people about George Michael's legacy. "[F]or people who were gay, they didn’t have to say they were gay to know we connected with them on a different level," one person said.

We'll keep you updated as we learn of more upcoming memorials and events paying tribute to the stars.
