As commercial closures, openings, and transformations abound in the Sunset, here's a look at some recent neighborhood business happenings:

Asian Kitchen & Deli Opens

A new Chinese-Vietnamese restaurant has opened its doors in the former New Sandy’s Cafe & Deli space at 1342 9th Ave., which had been closed since the summer.

Asian Kitchen & Deli serves "traditional Cantonese food and Vietnamese sandwiches," said one of the new restaurant's employees.

New Sandy's Cafe & Deli, on the other hand, has taken up residence a few doors down and re-opened as Sunflower Garden, a traditional Vietnamese spot.

Underdog Pet Supplies Pivots To Selling Furniture

Changes are underway at Underdog Pet Supplies (1608 Irving St.) The little pet store has been out of business for “a couple months,” shop owner Rizza Punzalan told Hoodline.

Now, Underdog, which only opened in 2015, is back open to liquidate its remaining items at 30 percent off.

The pet store, which sold organic supplies, was a spinoff of Punzalan's nearby eatery Underdog Organic, which has sold organic, vegan, and vegetarian hotdogs since 2004.

It closed because "people were just going in there, scanning bar codes, and having items ordered for them online," said Punzalan. "We can’t compete with online prices.”

According to Punzalan, she’s keeping the space and has been using it to resell furniture. She plans to call the new shop “Refind.”

“The store is about the three 'R’s': reduce, reuse, recycle,” she said. “We find uses for things, instead of donating them away or putting them in a landfill.”

The new furniture store is keeping it casual, and it doesn't have set hours—yet.

“The store promotion has really been done ... by word of mouth within the neighborhood,” Punzalan said. “Eventually, hopefully, after the winter season, we’ll do a little more marketing.”

Woods Beer Co. Nears Outer Sunset 'Outbound' Opening

In June, we reported that Woods Beer was planning to open its fifth location at 4045 Judah St. The new spot, called Outbound, will pour its first brew early next month, according to Eater SF.

Woods Beer already has two spots in San Francisco, one in Oakland, and one on Treasure Island that opened this summer.
