This afternoon, a vigil and march are planned to commemorate the year that has passed since Mario Woods, a 26-year-old black man, was shot and killed by police in Bayview on Dec. 2nd, 2015.

The event begins at 3:30pm at MLK Park in the Bayview. Attendees will march to Third & Fitzgerald, where Woods, who had been identified as a stabbing suspect, was shot after police say he refused to drop a knife or surrender to officers.

The Justice For Mario Woods Coalition disputes SFPD's account of the incident, which was captured in cell phone videos.

According to the invite, today's event will include "spoken word, dance, live music, powerful speakers, prayer and a group memorial ritual in Mario's honor, using details his mother has provided." More details are below.
