After shuttering in October for an overhaul, Big Slice Pizza at 1535 Haight St. is about to reopen under the stewardship of Tony Gemignani, the chef best known for North Beach's ever-popular Tony's Pizza Napoletana. Gemignani has taken home a dozen top honors in international pizza competitions, and Tony's was named the "best pizzeria in America" by Forbes in 2014.

The new pizza joint, called Slice House, will debut tomorrow, December 9th. The Big Slice space has been renovated and now seats 25. It also features a wall mural designed by Chris Jacobs, and featuring portraits of Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and John Lennon, as well as Andy Warhol-esque prints of retro cultural icons like Wonder Woman and Spock.

In addition to pizza by the pie or slice, the new menu will feature antipasti, salads, wings, housemade pastas, meatballs, and unique to the Haight Street store, a line-up of housemade burgers and fries.

The pizzas are cheekily named after songs from the '60s, such as the Purple Haze, which has mozzarella, purple potato, pancetta, rosemary, pesto, feta, oregano, romano and garlic oil

Slice House will be dine-in or take-out only for the remainder of 2016; expect delivery options to debut early next year.
