A woman and her baby are recovering after undergoing labor in Golden Gate Park in the early hours of this morning.

According to the Examiner, emergency personnel were alerted to the situation by an anonymous caller, who contacted fire officials around 4am this morning.

When emergency responders arrived, they found a 33-year-old woman in the final stages of delivery behind the bushes near the park's Rose Garden, according to SFFD spokesman Jonathan Baxter. The temperature outside: 48 degrees.

Paramedics treated both the woman and baby at the scene, then transported them to California Pacific Medical Center in "fair condition," according to Baxter.

Paramedics aid in the delivery of children throughout the year and in a variety of scenarios, but the birth of a baby in a public park was "unusual," Baxter said.

He urged the public to remember to call 311 if they notice anyone who might be in need of services, and to call 911 for emergencies.

Update, 12/13: The Examiner reports that Malina Berman, who is homeless and says she did not know she was pregnant, has called the unexpected delivery “one of the most miraculous things I ever experienced.” Berman's partner of seven months ran to call for an ambulance, leaving her to deliver the baby in a makeshift shelter. She wrapped the newborn girl, who she has named "Hillary," in a sweatshirt until paramedics arrived.
