Given the planned inauguration protests, it's quite likely that more Oaklanders than usual will be seeking ways to relax, unwind and yes, laugh this weekend. If stand-up comedy doesn't lift your spirits, we also found some energetic music shows, movie screenings and other ways to ease into the weekend.

Two blocks from 19th Street BART, in the loft above Spice Monkey restaurant, Comedy Oakland will present its usual double bill of Friday-night programming with shows at 7:30 and 9:30pm.

From 7:30 to 9pm, a crew of comics dubbed The Brown Illuminati will take the stage. Performers include Comedy Oakland founder Samson Koletkar, Moth StorySLAM winner Imran G-i, Priyanka Wali, Sid Singh and Shanti Charan.

The (Not So) Late Show, a collection of comics who've appeared on various talk shows, begins at 9:30pm. The lineup includes Koletkar, along with Zack Chapaloni, Marcus Williams, Sandra M. Risser and Jason Kyle.
