Neighborhood bakery and cafe Flour & Co. is closing tonight, after nearly four years on Hyde Street in Lower Nob Hill.

“This lovely city that we live in has been wonderful to us, and we’ve seen so many successes and joys over the years, but it has also kicked the flour out of us a time or two,” wrote owner Emily Day in a letter posted in the shop's window and on the company website.

The news comes less than six months after Flour & Co.'s Berkeley location shut down, due to a lack of business

“I’m ready for a little rest and variety beyond baked goods,” said Day in the letter, noting that she looks forward to spending more time with her two young sons.

The Nob Hill spot, which opened in 2013, offered homemade morning buns, muffins, pastries and breakfast sandwiches in the morning and a variety of cakes, pies and cookies to satisfy afternoon cravings, along with Stumptown coffee.

While the brick-and-mortar store is no more, Day said she intends to continue selling some goods online, starting with the bakery's popular granola. Other items may be offered down the line.
