The SFPD is investigating an officer-involved shooting this morning in Ocean View. According to KRON4, the shooting occurred as officers responded to a dispute between two neighbors at Capitol Avenue and Minerva Street, near the Minnie & Lovie Ward Recreation Center.

SFPD spokesperson Officer Giselle Talkoff told KRON4 that a resident of the 500 block of Capitol Avenue called the police around 3:51am to report that his neighbor had violated a temporary restraining order filed against him.

When officers arrived on the scene and confronted the suspect, a struggle ensued and shots were fired. The suspect then barricaded himself in his home and called 911, but officers later entered the home and made an arrest.

The suspect has been transferred to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries; his identity and charges filed against him have not been released.

The SFPD has confirmed that two officers have also been hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. One officer sustained a head injury, and the other officer's injuries have not yet been disclosed.

Update, 4pm: The SFPD has released additional details on the events leading up to the shooting.

According to the department's press release, two uniformed officers responded to the home on the 500 block of Capitol Avenue due to a call regarding a restraining order violation; the suspect was reportedly hitting a shared wall in the middle of the night.

Officers made contact with the suspect and the situation escalated physically. Pepper spray was deployed, an officer's baton was taken and shots were fired by at least one officer, the department states.

As previously reported, the suspect barricaded himself inside his residence, refused to come out and and called 9-1-1 to report that he had been shot.

The SFPD Crisis Hostage Negotiation Team and Tactical Unit later arrived on scene and "attempted to negotiate the suspect’s surrender." When the suspect did not surrender, Tactical Unit officers forced entry into the home "so that they could get the suspect medical attention."

The suspect was taken into custody "without further incident" and transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The two injured officers were also treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.

The SFPD reports that all details on this incident are currently preliminary, and the department's Homicide Detail and Internal Affairs Division are conducting separate investigations. The District Attorney’s Office and the Office of Citizen Complaints are also conducting their own investigations.
