While we don't report on every crime, we do our best to keep you informed of major crimes and safety concerns in the neighborhood. Here's a selection of crimes reported around the Tenderloin over the past two weeks. All details are pulled from the SFPD's daily crime recaps, unless otherwise noted.

Homicides

On January 5th, police were called around 3:30pm to Larkin and O’Farrell streets, where they found 61-year-old Gabriel Ramirez, also known as ‘Milkshake,’ unconscious on the ground after suffering severe head injuries. Ramirez died after being transported to San Francisco General Hospital.

A break in the case came on the morning of January 9th, police arrested 41-year-old San Francisco resident Abdul Cole at 710 Ellis St., charging him with murder and booked him in the San Francisco County Jail. As we reported, multiple suspects are presumed to be involved in this crime, and the police are asking anyone with further information to contact them.

Stabbings

Two employees of the Walgreens at 9th and Market streets were stabbed around 7am on January 12th. The two men, 37 and 27, were attacked after confronting the suspect, a 27-year-old man who was trying to leave the store with stolen goods. As we reported, the suspect was later taken into custody.

An unusual machete assault occurred on January 6th, near the UN Plaza entrance to the Civic Center BART and Muni station. A 29-year-old man was walking to the elevator when he was stabbed twice by a man wielding a machete. The suspect, believed to be 25-35 years old, fled on foot and is still at large. The victim’s condition remains unknown.

Later that same evening, a 63-year-old man was walking near the intersection of Ellis and Leavenworth when he accidentally bumped into a 25-year old man, who stabbed him with a knife. The victim drove himself to the hospital and reported the attack to the police, but no arrest has been made.

Aggravated Assault

Two men attacked a 43-year-old man with a broomstick just before midnight on January 9th, near the intersection of Ellis and Larkin streets. Both suspects fled the scene on foot, and remain at large. The victim was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Just one night prior, a golf club was the weapon of choice when two men began arguing in an apartment near the 200 block of Eddy Street on around 1am on January 8th. One man, 38, hit another, 41, on the arm with a golf club, inciting the older man to bite his opponent’s finger. The younger man then tried to strangle the older man before he fled the apartment. The 41-year-old was transported to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Both men were arrested.

Punch-and-grabs

Just before 10:30pm on January 9th, a 41-year-old man was walking to his car near the 100 block of Jones Street when two suspects, both 22-year-old men, blocked his path. One man punched the victim in the face, while the second stole his property. The two suspects fled eastbound on Jones Street and remain at large.

At 2am on January 8th, a 26-year-old man was having a cigarette outside near the corner of Geary and Mason streets when one of his fellow smokers punched him and stole his cell phone and credit cards from his pocket. The suspect and another man, both 27, fled on foot and have not been arrested.

Around 10pm on New Year’s Eve, a 46-year-old man was talking on his cell phone near the intersection of Mason and Ellis streets. A group of four 15-20 year old males walked by before one suspect doubled back and ripped the phone from the victim’s hand. The victim was chasing the suspects when a second man punched him. After the police caught two of the suspects later, the victim identified them and got his phone back.
