Remember when we used to talk about the drought in California?
Well, last night’s rumbling wind gusts and pelting rainfall were a reminder of what San Francisco is usually like at this time of year: wet.
In fact, over the course of the next week, some parts of California are expected to receive over a foot of rain.
San Francisco might get as much as five inches of rain through Monday, if you combine last night’s storm with the storm that is forecast for the weekend.
That being said, both Thursday and Friday are predicted to be dry, so if you're going to plan any outdoor activities where you need to stay dry, plan them for the tail end of the workweek.
After Friday, San Francisco’s next sunny January day isn’t yet visible in the 10-day forecast.
Before you start to think that 2017 is beginning to look a lot like 2016’s ugly stepsister, take a look at the silver lining:
Those interested in winter sports (or sitting in traffic for eight hours) will be happy to hear that Tahoe is preparing for three to five feet of snow on the mountains by tomorrow, and potentially up to seven feet of precipitation at elevations higher than 8,000 feet by early next week.
And for those looking to ride out the wet weather in the city, you can either spend some time syncing up your Netflix queue, or maybe finally exploring that iconic museum, science center, or art installation that you've been meaning to cross off your bucket list.
Regardless, umbrellas, rain boots, and wind-resistant coats will be musts for the foreseeable future.
