It’s been a little over a month since our last crime roundup, and gun activity remains an issue in San Francisco's southeast. The year got off to a rocky start with two homicides on New Year's Day, and reports of shots fired continue to be common occurrences in the area.

Here’s a look at the most recent crime activity in the Bayview Police District, which includes Potrero Hill, the Dogpatch, Bayview and Hunters Point. All reports come directly from the SFPD, unless otherwise noted. 

77-year-old hit-and-run victim in stable condition 

This past Monday, February 6th, a 77-year-old man was critically injured in a hit-and-run on the 2000 block of McKinnon Avenue. SFPD's press representative, Ofc. Giselle Talkoff, told us that the victim is now in stable condition, but the department is still hunting for the perpetrator. 

"We do capture hit-and-runs," Officer Talkoff told us. "There’s a lot of factors that help us find the person responsible. Sometimes it’s video or witnesses.It’s all apart of the process and we are investigating this case.”

69-year-old woman's car burgled in her garage

On January 27th at 11:00am, a burglar broke into the garage of a 69-year-old woman who lives on the 1500 block of Van Dyke Avenue, entered a vehicle parked there, and took several items, including bags, credit cards and money.

Parents scare off hot prowl burglar

On January 15th, a family of five on the 1100 block of Shafter Avenue awoke at 5:51am to find a suspect (age unknown) in their home, attempting to rob them. Upon being discovered by the parents, 26 and 30, the suspect fled the home and drove away in a vehicle. No items were taken.

Laptop and jewelry snatched from home

Later on January 15th, around 10pm, a 54-year-old woman went to sleep in her home located on the corner of Baldwin and Oakdale Avenues.  She woke up to find her laptop and jewelry missing.

Vehicle abandoned and burned

On January 10th at 1am, a vehicle was found abandoned and completely burned on the 1400th block of Carroll Avenue.

Purse-snatcher suspected of previous crime

On January 8th around 1pm, a 26-year-old woman was arrested at the corner of Oakdale and Newhall Avenues, after punching a 56-year-old woman, taking her purse, and making a run for it. Police added that she matched the description of a suspect in a previous, unrelated case. 

Woman robbed by BMW drivers

On January 6th at 6:30am, a 32-year-old woman was approached at the intersection of Third Street and Lasalle Avenue by a black BMW occupied by two men in their mid-20s. One of the suspects exited the vehicle, stating that he had a gun, and demanded her property. He stole her phone, money and credit cards before fleeing the scene.

Drug transaction inside car becomes robbery

On January 6th around 4:36pm, three men in their thirties robbed a 47-year-old man who they'd met up with for a drug transaction. Upon entering the suspects' vehicle, the man was held at gunpoint and forced to hand over his belongings, including his medications. He exited the vehicle, and the suspects fled.

Two men robbed and pistol-whipped

On January 2nd around 2:53pm, three men aged 18-20 were arrested after meeting up with a 22-year-old man and a 18-year-old man to sell items at the corner of Gillet and Lathrop streets. The suspects robbed and pistol-whipped the two victims, taking their keys, sunglasses, jewelry and wallet. The victims were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Bayview Police Station holds a community meeting at 6pm on the first Tuesday of each month at the station, 201 Williams Ave. The next meeting is March 2nd.
