Armed Woman Barricaded At 16th & Valencia Surrenders After 7-Hour Standoff [Updated]Photo: Eric R.

The police have ordered residents and businesses to shelter in place on the 500 block of Valencia Street (at 16th Street), where an armed suspect has barricaded themselves inside of a building.

Tipster Eric R. says that police have closed off Valencia between 16th and 17th streets, and are ushering pedestrians off the block, to keep them out of the line of fire. He said that at least 10 officers are currently present.

We'll update this breaking story as it unfolds.

Update, 3:58pm: The suspect remains barricaded, and police are working with hostage negotiators to get the person to surrender.

Based on a KTVU livestream, it appears the suspect is barricaded on an upper floor of the Crown Hotel, an SRO at 528 Valencia St. Limon Rotisserie is located on the building's ground floor.

Muni lines have been rerouted to avoid 16th and Valencia:

Update, 4:39pm: Three Crown Hotel residents who spoke with Mission Local said the suspect is a woman who is a "Marine-trained" veteran. According to police, she may have become upset when a person came door-to-door in the hotel to spray for vermin, holding them at gunpoint. A hostage crisis team is on the scene.

Update, 5:54pm: The woman still appears to be barricaded inside the hotel. Numerous helicopters are hovering over the Mission.

The Crown Hotel is one of the SROs that was recently taken over by the city as a source of housing for homeless residents who are disabled and have been on the streets for a year or more, with some units reserved for veterans.

The building has been evacuated, and residents are trapped outside, unable to access their homes.

Update, 10:24pm:  Suspect arrested. KTVU has the details: "At approximately 9:05 p.m. the suspect stepped into the hallway and was apprehended. The suspect has been transported to the hospital for evaluation, according to San Francisco police. Police also said the suspect's weapon has been found."
