North Beach has bid farewell to Cykel, the neighborhood bike shop located at 548 Union St.
The shop closed its doors at the end of February after six years in business, but as owners Niklas and Rocio Pearce put it, that's not necessarily a bad thing for their family:
This decision has been a hard one for us to make, definitely bittersweet, but as many of you know we are a family owned and operated small business. This means that the well being of our family, and our family dynamics, always has first priority; especially when it comes to large decisions like this one. We are delighted to be expecting a new baby this June and want to have more time together as a family once the baby has arrived; something that was nearly impossible when we welcomed our first with the shop responsibilities.
If you'll miss Nik's services, you won't have to go to far to see him again: he's accepted an offer to manage Contrada Bikes at 2078 Union St. in Cow Hollow.
And though they're moving on from the retail shop, the Pearces have fond memories of their time spent in the North Beach neighborhood:
We appreciate all the love and support we have received throughout these six years. Our gracious landlords have been amazing beyond words, they have become family, and the neighborhood of North Beach has been warm and kind to us. We will surely miss it.
Never miss a story.
