Man Seriously Injured In North Beach Assault Sunday

A man suffered life-threatening injuries in an assault in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood Sunday morning, police said.

The attack occurred around 9:30am in the 1000 block of Kearny Street near Columbus Avenue, according to police.

The suspect, a 49-year-old man, allegedly ran across the street and began hitting a 37-year-old man, according to witnesses. The victim tried to defend himself but fell to the ground, where the suspect continued to attack him, police said.

The suspect fled the area but was later located by police and arrested. His identity was not immediately released by police.

The victim was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, and an update on his condition was not available this morning. —Sara Gaiser


Victim In North Beach Fatal Shooting Identified

A man killed in a shooting in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood early Saturday morning has been identified as 21-year-old Oswaldo Fuentes of Fairfield, according to the medical examiner's office.

Fuentes was shot in the 500 block of Green Street near Grant Avenue shortly after 1:30am, according to police.

Arriving officers found him lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

No arrests have been reported as of this morning, and police have not provided any other information on the circumstances or motives surrounding the shooting.
