Bayview Crime Recap: Pepper Sprayed Business Owner, Spit Assault, Mobile Home Fire [Video], MorePhoto: Shutterstock

It’s been a little over a month since our last crime roundup, and while gun activity continues to a concern in the city’s southeast, burglaries have been on the rise. Since the beginning of April, there have been seven reports of burglary in the Bayview Police District, which includes Potrero Hill, the Dogpatch, Bayview and Hunters Point.

Here’s a look at the most recent crime activity in the district. All reports come from the SFPD's daily crime recaps, unless otherwise noted.

Cellphone Stolen From Teenager

On April 11th at 7pm on the corner of Third and Fitzgerald, eight teens between the ages of 12 and 13 approached a 17-year-old woman and struck her several times. The suspects stole the victim’s cellphone and fled on foot.

Mobile Home Explodes Into Flames During Sunday Streets

On April 9th at 3pm, a mobile home exploded into flames on the 1400 block of Custer Street as Bayview/Dogpatch Sunday Streets' attendees watched from a distance. SFFD responded and was able to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported.

Computers Stolen From Bayview Opera House

On April 7th at 10am, we reported several Apple desktop computers and laptops were stolen from the Bayview Opera House’s administrative offices. No arrests have been made.

Drive-By Shooting Injures Two

On April 8th on the corner of 3rd and Palou, SFPD responded to a 22-year-old man and a 27-year-old man who suffered non-life threatening injuries after being shot by a suspect who drove by in a unidentified car.

Newspaper Thieves Pepper Spray Business Owner

At 12:20pm on April 2nd, two women in their mid-twenties stole newspapers from a business owned by a 62-year-old man located on the 2500 block of San Bruno Avenue. Upon confronting the women, the man was pepper sprayed by one of the suspects. Both women fled the area on foot, and although the man was injured, he refused transportation to hospital.

Spit Leads To Attempted Hit-And-Run

On March 29th at 8:20am, SFPD responded to a 52-year-old man who was spit on by another man in his mid 40’s on the 1000 block of Le Conte Street. After spitting on the victim, the suspect got into his vehicle and attempted to strike the victim with his car.

Man Struck By Bullet While Driving In His Car

On March 21st at 4pm, a 28-year-old was driving along the 1500 block of Van Dyke Avenue with his girlfriend. The couple heard multiple gunshots and he looked down to discover he'd been shot. He switched seats with his girlfriend who drove to the nearest hospital. The wound was considered non life-threatening.

Woman Dragged By Car After Attempting to Recover Stolen Bracelet

On March 20th at 4:07pm, a 51-year-old woman was standing on the corner of 3rd and Mckinnon streets showing her bracelet to a friend. Suddenly, a man who was driving in a car got out of his vehicle, snatched her bracelet and attempted to flee. The victim ran after him, grabbed a hold of the car and was dragged for a short distance as he attempted to flee. The woman fell off the car and broke her leg. She was transferred to the nearest hospital where she was treated for her injury.

SFPD Nabs Hot Prowl Duo

On March 16th at 2:55am, a 40-year-old man woke up to the sound of his back door being opened. He looked out the window where he saw two men. One of the men jumped over the fence and was arrested on the 400 block of Mississippi, while the other was found hiding under the victims parked car in the garage. Both suspects were booked on hot prowl burglary, possession of stolen property and conspiracy charges.

The Bayview Police Station holds a community meeting on the first Tuesday of each month at 201 Williams Ave. The next meeting is May 2nd.
